MetroHealth is featured in the September 30th edition of Crain’s Cleveland Business for its noteworthy performance in the Medicare Shared Savings Program. This year MetroHealth has the only accountable care organization (ACO) in the region that will receive a payout from the federal government for helping save money in their care for seniors in 2017. It’s a complex formula, but the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services establishes a spending benchmark for each participating ACO. For a health system to get a slice of the savings, they have to spend less than that threshold by at least a certain percentage. MetroHealth saved at a rate of 10.2% and will receive nearly $5.5 million in return. This savings rate is the highest in the state, and 18th-highest in the country.
